Volunteer with our grassroots NGO to empower women and girls in rural Uganda!
Accommodation
You’ll be living in the middle of the community in our dorm style volunteer house in Busembatia village. Alternatively, you can choose to stay with a host family with dinner included. This will be an extra £100 per month. Check out our video about living with a host family here. The village has a great little market where you can get fresh veggies, fruit and other daily supplies. Nearby towns Jinja and Iganga are easily accessible by local taxi. Jinja town is a tourist hot spot with lots of activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, bungee jumping, quad biking and a great nightlife. Your introduction week will include trainings as well as exploration of the village and Jinja.

Cost/Crowdfunding
We ask you to fundraise before you start your placement. If you cannot fundraise the whole amount, you’ll have to make up the difference. Funds contribute towards volunteer housing, transport during placement and project running costs. 3 month placement = £800, 6 month placement = £1000 Funds may be fundraised online via a crowd funding page (please see here for example), or transferred directly to WIL Uganda by PayPal. Of course we can assist you with this, please get in touch if you have any questions.

Application requirements
- Crowdfunding before your placement begins;
- Professional experience, University degree/ enrolled on university course;
- Interest in international development, women, economic empowerment and sustainability;
- Access to digital camera and laptop to use throughout placement;
- Previous experience in rural community is an advantage.

Help to design interactive one to one English lessons for women in the village in their homes. Operate mobile library for women and girls in village and organize and coordinate further literacy outreach. Preferably you’ll have TEFL qualification.
Run a simple computer literacy programme including basic training on the use of Microsoft packages, email and the internet. You’ll be teaching girls in school as well as one to one classes with adults in the village.
Manage the in school crafts project and midweek adult project. Assist in project design, teach women how to make paper beads and other locally made crafts along the way. Develop our business plans for the project as well as market research for expansion. You will also manage our BaNyabo facebook page and our Etsy store.
You’ll have excellent facilitation and advocacy skills to deliver our SRHR programme to in school girls and also facilitate sessions at the local health centre with local women. You will also work closely with our partner organisation Irise and help to coordinate Menstrual Health education sessions in the village and in our partner schools.
